I started my co-op term with Altagas Ltd. on June 1, 2010. This is my second professional work term experience but for the first time I will be working on the actual financial accounting side. Having some good knowledge about the company and financial accounting I am now really excited about my professional career. I always wondered how these large corporations operate and about the work experience people gain at these organizations. It feels so good to be here. I have my own cubicle. Everybody here is so friendly and nice; I can go to any of them any time and get an answer for my problem. I am supporting the financial analyst on his month end adjustments which they call 13th month adjustment. Basically I do revenue and expense accruals, accounts reconciliations etc.This has given me an opportunity to acquire knowledge in the business side of the company. I do letter drafting for the customer to whom we send invoice attached to it. I normally maintain the volumetric and 13th month adjustment binder for the recording and meeting purpose.
Altagas is a very good place to acquire learning experience and develop one’s skill set. My first month at AltaGas was very exciting, as I am getting exposed to a totally different environment. I get to know the people who work on the same floor as I do, and have started to understand the basic functionality of the business and practically started to implement the academic learning’s.
This is just the beginning and I am eagerly looking forward to the rest of my time that I am going to spend here.
